Meeting Time

SMS Beta Club meets every other Friday morning in the SMS Library from 7:30 AM until 7:55 AM and the following Monday after school from 3:45 PM until 4:15 PM. You must attend ONE of these meetings for credit. Please check the calendar for dates. There may be times we call a longer afternoon meeting. We will let you know in Advance.

Purpose
The purpose of this organization shall be the promotion of scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship at Shepherd Middle School.
Membership

The membership of this organization shall be made up from among the students of grades seven and eight, who, because of their worthy character, good mentality, credible achievement, and commendable attitude, have been approved for membership by the principal of Shepherd Middle School. Seventh graders, who completed the sixth grade with at least a 90 average, are eligible to join, if they possess worthy character. Seventh and eighth grade students, who were not eligible the previous year, will be allowed to join, if their cumulative middle school average is 90 or above. Students must join in their first year of eligibility. Students that do not wish to join in their first year of eligibility will not be considered for membership in later middle school years. ALL members of Shepherd Middle School Junior Beta Club are required to try out for U. I. L. Competition, maintain a satisfactory citizenship grade in all courses, pass all courses each six weeks, participate in any fundraising or service projects, and attend SMS Junior Beta Club meetings.

Dues
A membership fee of $15.00 will be collected when a new member is invited to the club. This fee registers the student as a member of the local and national club for the duration of his middle school years. The National Beta Club website is as follows: betaclub.org/

I herby declare that I shall always strive to be honest and truthful at all times; to maintain a credible scholastic record; to be of service to my teachers and my community; to conduct myself in a manner to reflect credit upon my school and community.
Scholarships

All former SMS Junior Beta Club members in good standing are eligible to apply for the SMS Junior Beta Club Scholarship during their senior year at Shepherd High School if they are members of the National Honor Society at Shepherd High School.  Scholarships are awarded according to available funds and qualifying entries.
